Jasmine Sullivan is one of my favorite artists. On her latest album she included a song titled "Brand New" it chronicles a relationship that met its demise when one of them finally achieved their dreams. She detailed her support, loyalty and pain as a result of being left behind ... seemingly so quickly, when she sewed into that same dream just as diligently as her counterpart. Fame created a shift in her partner she simply wasn’t expecting.
Lil Dickey - a rapper who mostly just enjoys clowning around on the mic - wrote a song called "Molly" included on his first studio album. From his perspective he was unable to maintain the relationship he so readily desired due to the pressures of fame. He had no balance. As a result he lost his woman and who could ever forget Charlene? A classic ballad sung by Anthony Hamilton.
An excerpt:
"She knows I really love this old music thing
Since I was a child it's been my dream
I can support her treat her and spoil her
You know buy her the finer things
But I forgot about loving her
Damn the money, diamonds and pearls
What about the hard day she had with the baby
All she need is for me to love her"
What am I getting at? Don’t become an artist, entrepreneur, business owner, etc. who finds they’ve lost the most important aspects of their life upon reaching fame. Understand the benefit of relationship and create a strong work/life balance in order to sustain you as you navigate your road to success.
Understanding The Benefit Of Relationship
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Money truly doesn’t buy happiness. Money isn’t rubbing your back at 1 in the morning while you’re asleep just to make sure you’re alright. That new deal isn’t going to account for time lost when the kids grow up. That watch isn’t going to create a space for you to confide and disclose your deepest secrets. Money isn’t going to provide a shoulder of support or prevent you from taking a step backwards when you’re a little caught up. Partners do that. Friends do that. Group does that. Therapy does that. Relation does that.
Relationships: Teach us communication, commitment and sacrifice.

"We are in situations consistently where we have to and that can take us out of our selfish and self-centered ways if we allow it to."
This isn’t an advocacy message for co-dependency. However it’s important to understand that healthy relationships can allow us to further craft the best version of ourselves and increase qualities that are valued in both a personal and professional setting. We become more aware of opportunities that allow for growth.

We utilized the following article when researching "Understanding the benefit of relationship"
Creating a Work/Life Balance
The separation of work and home is essential. That would also include knowing when to sit aside the pursuit of our passions and focus more on what is required of us at home. Don’t misunderstand me. The integration of your passions within your inner circle or with someone close to you is important but there will always come a time in which we are called to be more present with those around us. Whoever they may be. Even if it’s just you. Rest is important. Time to yourself is important. You are important. Your relationship is important. Your home is important. Family is important. Know when to avert your attention.
Balance: Decreases Burnout, Increases Creativity

Journal Entry:
1. What areas of your life call for increased communication, commitment and sacrifice?
2. How can you improve your ability to balance the pursuit of your dreams and your life at home, whatever that may be? (Feel free to substitute verbiage accordingly. Example: How can you improve your ability to balance work and marriage?)
3. Are you allowing yourself to be taught and/or gain from experiences different from that of your own? If not, why?
4. Are you in a cycle of judging others based on your own experiences or experiences you’ve known others to have?
